Out and About, Ballater

Aberdeenshire is a wonderful area to discover, with castles & distilleries to visit, hills and valleys to walk or cycle, numerous golf courses to test your skills, as well as many other sports and interests such as horse riding , fishing ( river and loch) gliding , off road driving etc. Ballater is a delightful village situated close to Balmoral, just 42 miles from Aberdeen for shopping and a breath of sea air.

The National Trust for Scotland has many spectacular castles in Aberdeenshire, including Crathes and Craigivar. Balmoral Castle and estate, holiday home to the Royal Family is only 5 minutes drive away. Visiting any of the highland games is a unique experience for all ages and a must when visiting Royal Deeside and the Cairngorms.

  Balmoral Castle  Open daily Saturday 1st April until Monday 31st July
  Crathes Castle  The site is owned by The National Trust for Scotland and is open daily, April to September 10:30-5:30pm, October 10:30-4:30pm, guided tours on Thursday to Sunday November to March.
  Lochnagar Distillery  Royal Lochnagar distillery is situated on the south side of the River Dee close to Balmoral Castle. Age old traditions and craftsmanship produce one of Scotland's most exclusive whiskies, a malt whisky worthy of the "Royal" prefix to its name.
  Fishing on the River Dee   One of the top four British salmon rivers, the Dee rises in the Cairngorm Mountains and flows for over 80 miles through the Grampian region in north east Scotland before it enters the North Sea at Aberdeen.
  Ballater Golf Club  Ballater golf course, interesting and challenging amid breathtaking scenery.
  Cairngorms National Park  The park is home to 16000 people and has 25% of Britain's threatened wildlife species. It includes mountains, moorlands, forests ,rivers , lochs and glens.
